For this is the meaning of life...
Or so says Eric Idle. Lately, I've been thinking about how little I think about my mortality. I can hear a small voice in the back of my head saying, "Now why would you think about that?" As someone who desperately wants to play Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd and laughs when the Repo Man in Repo: The Genetic Opera rips out a man's intestines and makes a puppet out of him, I should ponder it a bit more than I do. But I don't and I think it's because I'm busy. I mean, obviously I don't mean that I have no free time. It's just limited. And in that free time, I'm either watching TV (too much, might I add) or using my computer.
I'm a procrastinator by nature and yet artistic. Isn't that a fun combination? Especially when you have this great idea but...you need to clear out the DVR and after all Frasier is on! You don't want to miss that! Just one more episode before you go to bed and then you realize: *Gasp!* I wanted to paint that mural on my wall today. I was writing a song and I wanted to continue it. I was supposed to drag that old drawing of Narcissa Malfoy out and finish it! In other words, bugger...
I need to make an effort to do things NOW, as in right this second, instead of saying, "Oh, I can finish that later." No, you can't. You need to finish that right now and then you need to clean your room" (I really do, actually!). This is my resolution and I cannot wait until New Years to make it. I will be less of a procrastinator (I can't stop; it's a disease and we're all secretly zombies...but you didn't hear that from me).
And here's how death ties in: I recognize on a fairly regular basis all of the ways that I could die (and yet, I do not contemplate the fact that I might not be here tomorrow; strange, innit?), and if I died I couldn't jump around on the sofa while watching the battle sequences in Pirates of the Caribbean or describe how I would stalk Professor Snape to music or even scold my friend for not knowing how to make pasta. These things are important to me, so I will do them now. Well, not now because I'm in an office at a theatre but soon, soon. I promise (...or do I? Muahaha!...No, I do).

Can I just say that I love to dress up? Yes! A few days ago I rode the train in full 19th century costume. Mainly, I was just lazy and comfortable in my old fashioned clothes but it turned into a kind of social experiment, I guess. Here's how it went down:
On Saturdays I dress up in historical clothing for work. This is because I work at a store for people who reenact (stuff like Dickens Fairs, working at state parks, etc) and on Saturdays we are particularly busy; why not show of the wares?
Anyway, I wake up that morning, throw on some jeans and a shirt, put my hair up 1840's style, and pack my corset, crinoline, dress (etc, etc) in my bag and get dropped off at the train to get to work.
I get there, change, and spend the day knocking things over (like paper; I didn't ruin anything that was important) with my enormous skirt. Despite that, I really enjoyed being in costume and I didn't want to change when it came time to leave...so I didn't. I called my mum and asked if she could just pick me up to avoid annoying people on the train but the answer was no.
I sat and though for a moment. Riding a modern train in old fashioned clothing, getting weird looks (which is actually somewhat entertaining for me), but staying in an outfit I liked or taking transit in my street clothes, able blend in and read my book in peace.
I stayed in my work clothes and you know what, I heard some of the most insane comments that I have ever heard a human being in real life utter. There were two that I remember.
The first was an older man on the train. He said that he liked my dress and asked if I wore clothing like it everyday. I said no. I almost got the feeling that he was asking if I was a Mormon except that my dress didn't look like the dresses Mormon women wear. When I returned to reading, I heard him say to the other men he was sitting with that he wanted to dress his wife and children in Victorian clothing. I'm paraphrasing but it was essentially that.
The second comment that I got was "I thought that sh** was just in the movies."
Wow. How riveting. How truly enlightening. Isn't it great that for some reason there are people who get a free education and yet have no idea that people used to dress differently. Ye Gods!
So, that was my experiment. Next time, I'll try it in my Bellatrix Lestrange costume or maybe Xena! Who knows?

I have to say I proud of our country's choice. It is amazing that it took us this long to elect someone who was of a different race, but now that we have, it is set in history. I haven't quite felt the change yet, but I will. I realize that this is an amazing and awesome event for, not only America, but the whole world. We're making change and I can finally say it: I am proud to be American. Although, let's see how I'll feel in a few months... (I don't know if that's a joke yet). By the by, I am proud as a Chicagoan, too, enormously so.

I hope that everbody has a Happy Christmas, Eid, Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, etc. Please remember to spread good cheer and be creative. Embrace the meaning of the holidays- it's so important. This season can be very commercial and because of that things lose their meaning. I have this to say: Love and peace to all things on this Earth. Here's to another year over, which has made us, hopefully, another year wiser and let's all learn to share this planet that we call home. It's all that we have.

This is a video type thing that I made. It basically follows Captain Barbossa's life. There's a bit of symbolism but it's not just a bunch of pictures I randomly strung together. Hope whoever watches enjoys!

yeah! i'm redecorating my room! i'm just cleaning it now which really sucks but it's totally worth it. i'm going to ikea on wednesday and i'm getting all new furniture. i'm going with a sort of cross between east indian design and french cafe sort of feel. i figure that they have the same color scheme so it'll work. i'm so psyched about this because i want to get a degree in interior design so i have something to fall back on if my acting career goes badly. my room is obviously the perfect practice because i get to experience what it's like to live in a room that i design and get an idea of what does and doesn't work. geez, though, the cleaning is going fast but i hate it! oh, well, it'll be done with soon and i can get a new room! i can't wait until wednesday! i'm also going shopping with some friends tomorrow. that'll be fun too. but still, i wish i was done with the cleaning.

Are you the Beatles or the Rolling Stones?

You're the Rolling Stones! You guys are just... cool. And you get away with stuff the average person only dreams of. How else do you explain Sir Mick Jagger? Oh yes, you have, or had, or whatever, an edge, making you realer and cooler than those lame airheads, the Beatles.
